Fund Set Up to Help Meningitis Victim

A fund has been set up for UCSB student Aaron Loy who came down with meningitis last month. The funds are being started to help pay for his medical costs, prosthetic and rehabilitation costs.

Aaron Loy is a freshman at UCSB and was member of the university’s lacrosse team. His roommates rushed him to the hospital when he first got sick in November. Doctors were able to save his life, but the meningitis led to sepsis, causing both of his lower legs to be amputated.

Meningitis is a disease caused by the inflammation of the protective membranes, called meninges, that cover the brain and spinal cord. It is spread through close contact like kissing, sharing drinks or cigarettes.

Once Loy was hospitalized his parents began sharing details about their son’s fight to recovery through social media. And now friends and family have been given the chance to help them.
