Death Penalty Recommended in Oxnard Murder Case

Gurmohinder Singh was known to withdrawal large amounts of money for his check cashing and mini mart businesses. That’s what Singh had just done on the Saturday morning in August 2008 when a gunman robbed him and then fatally shot him outside the US Bank on Oxnard Blvd. He was carrying $100,000 in cash when he died.

This week the same Ventura County jury that convicted Jeffrey Aguilar of the crime, recommended he receive the death penalty.

An ATM photo taken at the murder scene put police on the trail of Aguilar, a known gang member.

Two days later he surrendered to police at a Carpinteria motel.

Aguilar was eligible for the death penalty because he committed the murder during a robbery while lying in wait.
