English Tea Party in Santa Maria

Second grade teachers at Alvin School in Santa Maria held an English tea party for their classes. Students are reading the book Mr. Putter and Tabby Pour Tea about an elderly man who has tea every afternoon and his adventures with a cat he adopts.

Second grade teacher Jane Fletcher had the idea to get kids hands on with the book’s etiquette lessons. She called an English friend to help her perform a skit a typical tea service.

Students brought their own cups and saucers to join in on the fun. They learned the proper way to drink and pour tea, as well as how to dress for a tea party.

Teachers at the school say kids learn best visually so they thought this was a great way to get kids hand on, as well as learning about another culture.
