Two people injured when truck slams into power pole

Two people were injured when their truck slammed into a utility pole.

Around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the intersection near Foothill Road and Hamilton Avenue in Ventura. When they arrived, they found a light-duty truck, heavily damaged, leaning against a power pole. The pole was hit hard enough to knock it off its center.

The male driver was able to get out of the truck on his own. Emergency crews used the Jaws of Life to remove the female passenger. She was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for further treatment of her injuries. The driver suffered only minor injuries.

Authorities closed down Foothill Road during the rescue. It will remain closed while Southern California Edison crews work to repair the damaged power pole.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
