Wanted man surrenders after standoff in Santa Maria
Aman wanted for attempted murder is in custody after a long police standoff in Santa Maria.
Jorge Coria, 33, of Santa Maria, barricaded himself in an apartment complex in the 200 block of East Orchard Street just before 3 p.m. Sunday.
When he refused to comply with police demands, authorities set up a command post and blocked off parts of the road.
Santa Maria police and Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Special Forces were on the scene attempting to communicate with Coria.
According to authorities, he finally gave up during negotiations around 10 p.m. No shots were fired, and there were no physical incidents.
Coria is suspected of stabbing two people at the 7-Eleven on N. Broadway in June.
