Santa Barbara-area fire agencies honor 19 firefighters killed in Arizona

Santa Barbara-area fire agencies honored the 19 young men who died in an Arizona wildfire. Wednesday morning, a call was put out over the scanners, and a countywide moment of radio silence was held.

In Montecito, the Fire District will be donating all proceeds from its Annual Pancake Breakfast to the family of hotshot member Sean Misner.

Misner is a familiar name around the Montecito firehouse. The 26-year-old’s grandfather was the former Montecito fire chief and his uncle is the current operations chief. His untimely death hit close to home for members of the Montecito Fire District family.

“The last couple of days have been hard,” Montecito Fire Communications Coordinator Jackie Jenkins said. “It’s hard whenever you lose anyone in the fire service, but it’s particularly difficult because we’re involved with family members here.”

The pancake breakfast usually sees a crowd of about 1,000 people. This year, that number is expected to be much higher.

Tickets for the breakfast are $8 and are avalaible at the door. Further donations are welcomed. Breakfast is served from 7:30-11 a.m. at595 San Ysidro Road.
