Truck collides with train in Ventura
A man is in critical condition after an Amtrak train collided with a pickup truck at a rail crossing.
It happened just before 5 p.m. Monday at Colt Street and Sperry Avenue in Ventura.
Police said it is unclear how the truck got on the train tracks. After being extricated from his car, the man was taken to Ventura County Medical Center with injuries to his head and torso.
David Endaya, assistant fire chief of Ventura Fire Department, said, “we just want to remind people that when they do come to an unprotected train crossing you always want to treat it like a red light and an armed crossing, stop look both ways, make sure if you have the radio on you roll the windows down and look especially when it’s unprotected.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Ventura Police Department.
