Dons win first game of the year in baseball

What started off a pitcher’s duel saw eight runs score in a span of an inning and a half. When the dust had settled Santa Barbara High School edged Righetti 5-3 in the Central Coast Tournament.

Righetti’s Troy Prober kept the Dons off-balance through the first four innings while Santa Barbara’s Gabe Grancolas held the Warriors scoreless for five innings.

But once the offenses started going, it was hard to slow them down. Santa Barbara’s Ian True drove in the game’s first run with a deep double to left center that plated Toby Minehan. Skyler Sabado drove in True with a single and the Dons added another run to lead 3-0.

But Righetti bounced back with three runs in the top of sixth, two on a single off the bat of Isiah Ramos.

The Dons answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on an error and a bases-loaded walk by Righetti. Santa Barbara improves to 1-1-1 on the year while the Warriors drop to 3-1.
