Evacuation order South Arroyo Grande Creek Levee still in effect
OCEANO, Calif. – Oceano is on alert. San Luis Obispo County issued an evacuation order for all areas south of the Arroyo Grande Creek channel for one mile and west of Highway 1.
The County Office of Emergency Services first issued evacuations last Wednesday.
“With continued storms, we left the evacuation orders in place out of caution because if the levee were to overtop again, more than likely that area to the south would flood,” said Rachel Dion with the County Office of Emergency Services.
The County says it was a good call because communities like the Pacific Dunes Ranch Campgrounds were impacted.
The on-site manager says the property saw floodwaters up three feet high when the creek overflowed.
North of the levee in the Oceano area also experienced some damage during this weekend’s storm.
“Near the mobile home park. which was the reason for the evacuation warning for those residents,” said Dion.
County emergency leaders are asking everyone to be patient; they're working as quickly as possible to clear the area and allow people to return home.
“However, that creek is still flowing pretty good. So leaving that in place for the night as a precaution. and then, we're going to reevaluate in the morning, and hopefully, we will have some good news for everyone tomorrow[Tuesday]," said Dion.
Management at the pacific dunes ranch say once the evacuation orders are lifted, they will hire maintenance workers to ensure their property is safe for the community to return.
