Santa Barbara Prime Time Band recruiting musicians of all levels
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A local music ensemble is getting ready for its next performance on the Fourth of July.
Since 1995, the Santa Barbara Prime Time Band has been bringing music to life throughout Southern California.
The vibrant ensemble consists of more than sixty amateur musicians performing at local concerts, parades and events throughout the community.
"Amateurs are so wonderful to work with because they have such a passion for music and just a joy that some of the people have it’s just marvelous," said music director Paul Mori of the Santa Barbara Prime Time Band.
The band is looking to recruit more musicians of all levels.
"There is magic in getting to make music with other people, and we have some people in the band who are really fine musicians, and then there are others like me who are just kind of hacks, but we all enjoy the opportunity to play together," said member Barb Statler of the Santa Barbara Prime Time Band.
"We learn a lot about healthy aging by being a member of the band you know there are people in the band were 20 years my senior and 15 years my junior and I think we all learn a lot," said Statler.
"I mean the joy of that, and people just kind of their eyes light up when we get in front of an audience and people are clapping for them. It’s really a fulfilling experience for everybody," said Mori.
The band’s next performance is on the Fourth of July at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Gardens.
"You know my hope is that more and more people discover us and we’ve we’ve been around for 28 years now but we’re still trying to get the word out that what are … it’s a marvelous community of musicians … It’s just a fulfilling thing and we want to share that love of music," said Mori.
Dedicated to creating opportunities for music-making for players of all experience levels, the band is comprised of adults from age 40.
