SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - As little Evett Kirby walks around town barefoot in Santa Barbara, neighbors are facing their own struggles from this week’s massive rainstorm.

"Tried to start that truck and it won’t start. It’s just … I think all the other trucks are wet … it just won’t start … I mean this truck is full of water," said resident Frank Lomeli of Santa Barbara.

Neighbors along Spring Street worked together trying to help their friend's car situation.

But all they discovered were some soaked registration papers and a dead car battery.

"It’s still not working. We doing want to spend more money on changing other things," said resident Marco Perez of Santa Barbara.

While the rainstorm has been highly anticipated for days, neighbors said they just didn’t see it coming so quickly.

"It caught us off guard you know I mean usually when it rains it gets flooded and we put the cars up high but it happened so quick," said Lomeli.

Those neighbors whose homes are located higher up the hill said they’re doing okay.

But not for Christina Munos.

She woke up to all kinds of water damage to her home including a broken washer and dryer.

"I feel terrible," said Munos.

Neighbors said cleanup will take days, weeks and in some cases months caused by this weeks rainstorm.

"Our backyard was underwater. But the test survived. The house was good the cars were good.
As for this weekends rain … some are hoping to be more prepared," said resident Beth Kirby of Santa Barbara.

The next rainstorm is forecasted for this weekend.
