Santa Maria Joint Union High School District: Students begin first day of school through distance learning
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Students and teachers in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District started classes on Monday in a nontraditional way.
Teachers returned last week for several days of professional learning activities to prepare for the distance learning model.
Freshman students picked up their schedules, ID cards, tablets and textbooks.
Santa Maria High School principal Steve Campbell says he looks forward to the new school year despite changes made for everyone's safety. "I hope they make the adjustment. I hope we get back soon so we can have experience and enjoy activities on campus with proms and graduations and sporting events. If that is not possible the most important thing is they're getting quality education and they are attending school."
The district's fall 2020 reopening plan is also available on their website at
