SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse known as CADA told NewsChannel it has sold off its Haley Street facility in Santa Barbara.

They're going to move the project recovery treatment program to the non-profit's administrative building on East Canon Perdido Street.

Directors say they'll be able to treat more people.

CADA anticipates a growing need for treatment following the passage of California Proposition 36 which emphasizes treatment for drug-related offenses.

"I'm excited for everything … people normally going to prison wouldn't be going to prison … they'll be getting treatment they need … prison isn't treatment for substance abuse," said program manager Kelly Berger of CADA.

"It is our duty to provide those services to our community and to make space available to people who need treatment," said executive director Victoria Rightmire of CADA.

CADA directors anticipate the number of clients could reach close to 150 or more by the end of the year.

Rightmire said one of the purposes for the move is to expand their capacity to treat adult clients in the project recovery treatment program.

Since the passage of Proposition 36, which includes treatment options for drug-related offenses, Rightmire anticipates more clients will be seeking treatment.
