Bishop Diego baseball celebrates walk-off win to start the playoffs

Sometimes you have to get some luck to advance in the playoffs and Bishop Diego is still alive in the CIF Division 6 postseason.

The Cardinals scored the winning run on a dropped popup between the pitcher’s mound and home plate as they celebrated a 3-2 first round win over St. Anthony of Long Beach.

St. Anthony grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning as Cardinals relief pitcher Hamilton Finefrock was called for a balk. The sophomore composed himself and pitched out of a 1-out bases loaded jam to keep it a one-run game.

In the bottom of the seventh the Cardinals thought they tied the game when Gabe Arteaga led off the inning with a blast to left but the Saints Dominik Tucker caught the ball at the fence and tumbled over it but he hung on for a great catch.

However the Cardinals loaded the bases and with one out the Saints balked in Will Goodwin to tie the game at 2.

With two outs David Gladish looked like he would end the inning with a popup but the Saints dropped it and Daniel Giannini scored the game-winner sending the Cardinals to the second round.
