Perry Ford Dealership and SLO nonprofit donate car to family in need
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.-
A Central Coast Car Dealership and non-profit teamed up to give a family in need a new car.
The tears were flowing today as Amanda Brill received a gift she could only imagine.
With the help of CAPSLO and Perry Ford the mother of three got a second chance and a brand new car to take her there.
“I'm kind of speechless! I'm so excited! I have never even been 5 feet from a car like this before. And for it to come from Perry Ford I feel like I am winning the lottery,” said Amanda Brill mother of three who received the new car.
SLO Mayor Heidi Harmon found out about Brill's situation and went into action.
“Luckily CAPSLO was able to find her housing. And I was determined to help her get a car.
And so I reached out to Perry Ford, and they have been generous enough to donate her and her family a car,” said Harmon.
Perry Ford's employees pitched in to the give back, forfeiting their yearly Christmas party to use the funds toward's Brills new car.
“I felt like it was important to give back to the community. We are one of the bigger businesses here in the community and we wanted to give back,” said Perry Ford regional manager Peter Blacksberg.
Non-profit CAPSLO stepped in after Brill found herself and three toddlers without a home and in need.
“We provide the basic necessities for people in the community. We provide food, clothing and shelter,” said CAPSLO Housing Case Manager Sofi Mundschau.
Brill took advantage CAPSLO'S addiction recovery and financial resources and said she feels like she has been given a second chance.
“I wanted a life for my kids and I wanted to break the cycle and I thought that it would be a really good opportunity for the kids and I to be in a place like that. That would help us to have stability,” said Brill.
Brill said the helped she has received has been overwhelming.
“CAPSLO helped with therapy, they help with child care. They helped us financially. They helped us get into housing,” explained Brill.
Brill now has safe temporary housing for her and her family and is seeking permanent Section 8 housing.
