Vargas’ record-setting rushing night at Carpinteria nets him Athlete of the Week

Carpinteria’s Leo Vargas scored six touchdowns and rushed for a school-record 315 yards against Trinity Classical Academy in a 44-12 Warriors victory.

He was named Male Athlete of the Week at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table.

Carp is 4-3 on the season and host Malibu in the Frontier League opener for both teams.

The Female Athlete of the Week was awarded to Westmont College women’s soccer player Maddi Berthoud.

She scored four goals in a 5-2 win over The Master’s College.
