SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. – A 16-year-old Atascadero boy died in a rainy rollover crash on Highway 41 south of Bear Ridge Rd. on Saturday, according to California Highway Patrol.

The uninjured driver, a 19-year-old Atascadero man, was arrested as the preliminary investigation shows that alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to CHP.

Just before noon Saturday, the two were driving about 55mph southbound on the highway in the rain when the driver entered a right hand curve and hydroplaned, according to CHP.

The vehicle crashed into the hillside and rolled over, and the 16-year-old was ejected as he was not wearing a seatbelt.

CHP said the Atascadero boy died due to his injuries on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 41.

CHP asks anyone with information regarding this crash to contact the CHP San Luis Obispo Office at 805-594-8700.
