Local church delivers 80,000 pounds of food to United Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - When it comes to food deliveries, the bigger the better.

At least for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santa Barbara.

“We have the opportunity to provide two truckloads … 40,000 pounds per truckload to both the United Boys and girls Club of Santa Barbara .. as well as the Santa Barbara County foodbank.” said communications director Randy Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Crews delivered a total of 80,000 pounds of food to help both organizations.

“That’s great because it’s a big help for agencies and our neighbors and everybody that gets what is food that we get Plus at the same time they’re one of our largest donors through the years," said warehouse manager Jesus Lopez of the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County.

“A lot of our members do have to face food insecurity at home and so when they come to the club they’re able to receive a hot nutritious meal and we use the ingredients that we received today to make those meals so we’re really excited," said VP of operations Christianne Rojo of the United Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County.

All the food being donated came from Salt Lake City, and is being stored here at the foodbank.

“One of the great things about the food bank is they are like a hand … if your hand and everything or they go out to so many different locations they hit unity shot and they hit the boys and girls club as well," said Smith.

“Our kids are amazing and to be able to provide these meals for them it’s just always really excited when were able to receive in a generous donations such as food to be able to combat food and security," said Rojo.

“It’s a feel good thing because at the same time we know that this food is really going to help out in our community," said Lopez.
