Avila Beach resort sees hazmat response after storage shed fire

AVILA BEACH, Calif. - A fire at a storage shed on the property of Sycamore Mineral Springs Spa and Resort in Avila Beach had a hazmat team response Thursday morning.

CALFIRE San Luis Obispo responded to the storage unit sometime after midnight and found it contained pool and spa water chemicals, like chlorine. The HAZMAT team is assessing the situation. But it's believed the chemicals were stopped before reaching the nearby San Luis Creek.

In response to the fire, CHP closed the area due to the emergency vehicles on the road. Avila Beach Drive was closed in both directions overnight but has since reopened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
