Highway 101 in SLO reopens after flooding causes it to shutdown

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Highway 101 through San Luis Obispo reopened Thursday afternoon after it was closed for several hours after the roadway was flooded.

The closure was in place from Santa Rosa Street to Osos Street on both sides of the highway.

The roadway flooding was the result of several hours of continuous rainfall throughout our area.

According to the California Highway Patrol online incident log, a city drain was backed up which led to the flooding. City crews were working to get the drain cleared and repaired.

Caltrans said there was no immediate estimate for when it would reopen.

By 4:30 p.m., the highway was reopened to traffic.

Drivers were encouraged to take extra precaution when driving on the highway and, if possible, avoid the area altogether.

The rainy conditions were to blame in part for several crashes and flooded roadways throughout our area.
