OXNARD, Calif. - A parade to celebrate the Pacifica high school football teams CIF State Championship is set for Wednesday.

Three days after winning a State Championship, the Pacifica high school football team was honored by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

“Congratulations again for winning a CIF State Championship,” said John Zaragoza, District 5 - Supervisor. “You have brought great joy and pride to the city of Oxnard and to the County of Ventura.”

The Tritons beat McClymonds last Saturday 34-6 in the CIF Division 2-A State Championship Bowl.

“It was our goal to win a State Championship, which no public schools in Ventura County have ever done, so that is great history, but my biggest goal for this group is to be the first school I have ever coached that is at 100 percent graduation rate,” said Mike Moon, Pacifica head football coach.

Principal Ted Lawrence says he is living in a dream world right now.

“It has been magical,” said Lawrence. “I have always said that Pacifica High School is my dream job. We like to be dominant in Ventura County in academics, athletics, and the arts, and these boys have shown that they can be scholars, and athletes at a very high level.”

And to celebrate their achievements, the city and school district has come together to give the team a celebration they deserve.

Wednesday the festivities will begin at 12:15 with a huge rally on campus.

“A few of our boys will sign their scholarships at that time so it will be a huge celebration and when that ends, come 4 p.m., we will have three buses, three convertibles, fire trucks and police cars come and they will lead us on a parade through the city of Oxnard,” said Lawrence. “We will go to the Oxnard Union High School District headquarters where the boys will then be honored by our board of trustees.”

The community is encouraged to come out and join in on the celebration.

“We are not just going to take an easy path,” said Lawrence. “We want to go through the heart of our community so we are going to go up Rose, we are going to go through La Colonia, through Rose Park, Freemont area, we are going to go through Christmas Tree Lane, and Downtown Oxnard. So we are going to hit all the core areas.”

The parade is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. in front of Pacifica High School and end at the Oxnard Unified High School District on South K Street.
