Santa Barbara police arrest wanted felon on multiple charges

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Santa Barbara police arrested a Goleta man on Tuesday morning on multiple charges.

On Tuesday at around 7:30 a.m., Santa Barbara Police Department detectives were in the area of 300 West Mission Street conducting a follow-up to an investigation when they recognized a man matching the description of a wanted person.

The man was identified as a 30-year-old Goleta resident.

Police say he has five active warrants for his arrest.

During the attempt to detain him, the man fled by foot across West Mission Street.

Detectives were able to apprehend him on the 300 block of West Pedregosa Street.

During the arrest, police say the man struggled with detectives and was reached towards his waistband. They were able to control him and handcuff his hands safely.

Two officers were injured during the struggle.

Police say they located a loaded handgun concealed in Gonzalez' waistband.

Detectives also located a hidden fixed blade knife, narcotics, burglary tools and narcotic paraphernalia.

Police say the man was also on active probation and has been convicted of felonies in the past.

He was arrested on multiple charges including resisting an officer with violence, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed dagger, person prohibited from possession of a firearm, commit felony while out on bail, obstruct/delay an officer, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotic paraphernalia and possession of burglary tools.

He is being held without bail.
