Deputies continue search for person suspected of assault with a deadly weapon in Old Town Goleta
GOLETA, Calif. - A portion of Hollister Avenue was closed in Old Town Goleta as sheriff's deputies searched for a person allegedly involved in an assault on Saturday.
Deputies were called to reports of a fight near Hollister and Kellogg around 10 a.m.
A man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
Hollister was blocked off from Kinman Avenue to Dearborn Place next to the 217 while deputies searched.
Drivers and residents were asked to avoid the area, including side streets, while the investigation was underway.
Sheriff's K9 Units, search helicopters and CSI responded to assist.
Just after 1 p.m., Hollister was reopened to traffic in both directions.
One block of South Kellogg Avenue north of Hollister remained closed for the investigation.
Kellogg was reopened around 2:02 p.m.
Sheriff's officials encourage nearby residents to keep an eye open and report any suspicious activity to their non-emergency line at 805-683-2724.
Investigators said preliminary information indicates the two people involved in the incident did not know each other.
