Man seriously injured after hit and run in Buellton

BUELLTON, Calif. - Santa Barbara County Fire responded to a medical emergency at an intersection between Highway 246 and Avenue of the Flags Sunday evening.

A man believed to be in his 40's was found seriously injured on the west side of the intersection.

Santa Barbara County Fire Officer, Mike Eliason said paramedics arrived on the scene at 5:42 p.m. on Sunday.

Officials suspect the man was jaywalking when he was struck by a car. The car then fled the scene.

Due to the extent of the man's injuries, the intersection was shutdown temporarily to allow an emergency helicopter to land in it.

The helicopter airlifted the victim out of the intersection where he was then transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further treatment.
