SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Los Padres Council, Boy Scouts of America donated 100 face shields to the staff at Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria on Friday.

Six scouts from Troop 87 and Pack 93 were led by Council CEO Carlos Cortez to make the delivery.

The masks were handmade by the scouts and their parents. From collecting the material, to gluing them together, they produced the face coverings to fill a need at the medical center.

A staff member had told the scouts that they will accept as many as they could afford them.

“They felt really good about being able to contribute back.  Because during this shelter-at-home, they are just trying to do their good turn.  Because a good turn daily is what we ingrain in them,” said Cortez.

There are nearly 2500 scouts across Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Cortez has challenged them to make face masks and deliver them to those in the community who need them the most - nurses, doctors, first responders, seniors, the ill, and the immunocompromised.

The challenge takes place through the month of May. Once complete, Cortez said a new patch will be designed and mailed to those who participated.
