[UPDATE] The volunteer mask drop off date has been moved to May 11 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. They are hoping this time extension will allow volunteers a greater time period to produce the masks.

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- Righetti High School student organizations are doing their part in helping the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite school being closed, student organizations like ASTRA, KeyClub and Interact are making masks for the community.

Student and staff volunteers produce the masks at home in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Volunteers follow online tutorials on how to make the masks through the Righetti school website.

Students and staff craft the masks using home materials.

Due to schools and other facilities being closed during this time, seniors will be compensated with volunteer hours. For every mask they make it amounts to an hour of volunteer time.

Volunteers will be able to safely drop off their masks in a plastic bag, with their name and information inside, at a drive thru drop box at the Righetti High School parking lot on April 30 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
