University of California suspends spring trips to Italy, Korea and China due to coronavirus concerns
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The University of California is suspending three of its scheduled spring and winter Education Abroad Programs in light of the rampant spread of the coronavirus.
The UCEAP website says the spring trips to Italy and Korea are suspended due to a Level 3 Travel Advisory issued by the US Department of State for Italy and South Korea. The advisory tells citizens to reconsider travel to t those locations.
The CDC issued their highest warning Level 3 for South Korea: Avoid All Nonessential Travel.
UCEAP also suspended their spring and summer trips to China after the US Department of State raised the Travel Advisory for China to Level 4: Do Not Travel at the end of January.
UC policy requires that UCEAP suspends trips to locations where a Department of State Travel Advisory level 3 or higher and a CDC Travel Health Warning Level 3 have been issued.
UCEAP says they monitor disease outbreaks worldwide 24/7 through the CDC and World Health Organization, partner universities, UC Study Centers, and host country resources.
