SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Santa Barbara city leaders are considering changes to the city’s residential eviction protections that could affect both renters and landlords.

The proposed ordinance would expand the types of rental properties covered by the city’s just-cause eviction rules.

The changes would also establish additional requirements for landlords seeking to move into their rental properties and provide relocation assistance to certain tenants temporarily displaced by repairs or renovations.

Additionally, the proposal would require landlords to provide additional notice when a rental property is sold.

City leaders are expected to consider the proposed changes Tuesday evening. The outcome of the discussion could determine the next steps for the ordinance.

NewsChannel will provide updates on the proposal during its 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
