SANTA BARBARA CO., Calif. (KEYT) - Homegrown celebrity Katy Perry's hit song "Firework" and namesake camp are empowering local tweens and teens.

To date, nearly 1,000 middle school students have attended the three-day sleep away camp, thanks to the Firework Foundation, co-founded in 2019 by Perry and her sister, Angela Lerche.

Recently, more than 85 boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 13 attended the 12th Camp Firework, the final session of the 2026 summer. The children live in North and South Santa Barbara County.

Campers enjoyed music, dance, hiking, archery and other activities.

Perry and her sister, Angela Lerche, are working to empower children from under-served communities by "igniting their inner light through the arts."

The children were referred by community partners including Girls Inc, The Housing Authority, Boys & Girls Club of Goleta, Boys & Girls Club of Lompoc and, the Lompoc Teen Center.

"Camp Firework was our starting point, but the relationships we've built with these kids inspired us to think bigger," said Perry and Lerche. "As our campers grew up, we wanted to grow with them, expanding our programs to offer mentorship, leadership development and real-world opportunities through high school and beyond. We're investing not just in who these kids are today, but who they can become tomorrow."

Perry and Lerche are looking to the future through Gratitude Canyon, a permanent home for Camp Firework in an unincorporated area in Goleta Valley.
