The Forecast for the First Day of Fall!

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Happy first day of fall! A warming trend begins today and the Central Coast can expect peak heating temperatures by Wednesday with temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above average.

Today, the coastal areas will wake up to a thin sheet of marine layer, bringing crisp air for a couple of hours. Winds will shift to offshore, so the marine layer will evaporate quickly, allowing the warm sunshine to prevail.

We are tracking a weak ridge of high pressure that is building in, along with the offshore flow from the north by this afternoon. It's important to keep in mind, Wednesday will be the warmest day of the next 7 days, so be sure to stay hydrated and practice heat safety.

Currently, there are no weather alerts, however the First Alert Weather Center will be keeping a close eye on the forecast in case the National Weather Service decides to ignite a heat advisory. Each morning the coasts may wake up to marine layer, but again, will be very light and quick to clear.

By Friday, the region will be in between a trough of low and a ridge of high pressure, which will keep conditions stagnant. It will still be warm for the weekend, but the hot conditions will calm and onshore flow will strengthen.
