Repair Cafe saves landfills by fixing treasured items

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – From tables to chairs, sweaters to toasters – you name it, they can fix it! The Repair Café Santa Barbara returned to the CEC Environmental Hub Saturday for another completely free repair workshop.

Roughly 25-30 volunteers offered up their expertise to help fix another broken items, both big and small. Folks brought in their broken item, and then sat down with volunteers who guided them through the repair process to share pratical skills that can be used in the future.

Organizers say this helps prevent unnecessary waste, and keeps items out of the landfill.

"People are just so grateful that we're doing this," said Repair Café organizer, Issac Laris. "We have had amazing experiences fixing all sorts of sentimental items and just feel great about keeping things out of the landfill."

People got to enjoy free coffee and drinks while they waited for their items. The Repair Café is hosted on a bi-monthly basis, completely free to the community.
