Arroyo Grande duo arrested after assaulting elderly man sleeping at Elm Street Park gazebo

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. (KEYT) – Two Arroyo Grande men have been arrested after attacking an unhoused man who was awakened by one of the pair urinating on him as he slept at Elm Street Park.

On March 20, around 1:45 a.m., officers were dispatched for an assault at Elm Street Park and arrived to find an elderly unhoused man who shared that he was sleeping under the Elm Street Park gazebo when he was awakened by a man urinating on him stated a press release Thursday from the Arroyo Grande Police Department.

According to Arroyo Grande Police, the unhoused man confronted the man who had awakened him before he was repeatedly kicked in the head and torso by the man who woke him and an accomplice.

The elderly man was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries added the Arroyo Grande Police Department.

Investigators identified the two attackers as 18-year-old Malachy Damien Hayes and 20-year-old Boaz Winslow Brigham, both of Arroyo Grande using the City's public safety camera system which captured and recorded the assault explained the Arroyo Grande Police Department.

Hayes was arrested and booked on felony charges of battery and elder abuse and he remains in custody with bail set at $150,000.

Brigham was arrested on March 30 and booked on felony charges of battery, elder abuse, and assault and he posted bail and is currently scheduled for an arraignment on April 13 of this year.
