A warm Friday ahead with heat relief in sight

A warm air mass is parked over the region with high pressure aloft through the end of this week. Thus, temperatures will stay well above average inland, though closer to normal at the coast.

Lows Friday will stick to the 50s and 60s. Coastal high temperatures will hit mostly the 70s to 80s, and even a little cooler for some Central Coast beaches. Inland highs will reach the 90s to low 100s.

A heat advisory has been extended to 8:00 pm Friday for all inland areas. The hottest temperatures will be in interior valleys and overnight lows will have hardly any recovery from the heat.

Sundowner winds are repeating their nightly pattern through the end of the week. Another wind advisory is in effect for the Southwest Coast and west Santa Ynez Range from 9:00 pm Thursday to 3:00 am Friday. North winds will blow 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

Skies will be mostly sunny, aside from the persistent and patchy night to morning marine layer. Fog may be slower to clear from the Central Coast.

Onshore flow will increase Saturday and most areas will cool a couple of degrees, except for the Central Coast as the sea breeze weakens there.

By Sunday, the upper high will shift eastward into Oklahoma. A cooling trend will start to accelerate, continuing through early next week, and reaching near or below normal by Tuesday.

The marine layer will deepen as well with increased onshore flow. The monsoon flow pattern will open the door for some mid and upper-level clouds. There will be little change into Wednesday.
