Shane Bieber wins MLB Triple Crown of pitching

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Shane Bieber is King of the Hill in Major League Baseball.

He is the first pitcher in the big leagues to lead in wins, earned run average and strikeouts since 2006 when Johan Santana achieved the feat.

Bieber tied for the lead in wins with 8 with Yu Darvish of the Chicago Cubs.

He was first in earned run average at 1.63 and led in strikeouts with 122.

Bieber went 8-1 on the year and is the shoe-in to win the American League Cy Young Award and could win the AL Most Valuable Player honor as well.

Bieber and the Cleveland Indians open up the playoffs on Tuesday against the New York Yankees.

Bieber pitched for UCSB from 2014-2016 and helped the Gauchos to two trips to the NCAA Regionals including the school's first-ever appearance in the College World Series in 2016.

He was drafted in the fourth round by Cleveland in 2016.
