San Marcos edges Foothill 11-10 in girls water polo showdown

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Ava Stryker scored a game-high 5 goals and Kate Meyer added two key fourth period goals as San Marcos edged Foothill 11-10 in a showdown between top five-ranked CIF-Southern Section Division 1 teams.

The Royals led 4-1 after the first period but the visiting Knights scored three straight goals to tie it at 4.

However the USC-bound Ava Stryker lofted a ball into the right corner of the net and San Marcos led 5-4 at halftime.

The Royals led 8-7 after three periods as freshman Charlotte Raisin scored one of her three goals.

Stanford-commit Reagan McEachen followed with a goal and so did Stryker.

San Marcos got a big lift in the fourth period behind Cal-bound Kate Meyer.

The senior started the period off with a goal to make it 9-7.

After Foothill scored, Stryker beat everyone down the pool and her fifth goal of the day made it 10-8 with 2:45 left to play.

Meyer struck again to make it 11-8 and the Royals held on for a huge victory.

San Marcos is now 8-2 on the year.
