San Marcos beats Dos Pueblos in softball to set up Thursday game for top seed in Channel League
GOLETA, Calif. - San Marcos High School clinched at least a share of the league crown but it all comes down to Thursday for the #1 seed in the Channel League.
The Royals Allie Fryklund was the pitching star while Izabella Velasquez went 4-for-4 at the plate with an rbi as they beat rival Dos Pueblos 5-0.
San Marcos is now 13-1 in league while the Chargers are 12-2 but each team is 1-1 against each other this year with the all-important rubber match coming in two days at San Marcos.
A DP win would give the Chargers a share of the league title with the Royals but DP would be the #1 seed because of head-to-head competition.
Fryklund was not feeling well after perhaps having food poisoning but she made DP hitters feel ill.
The Arizona Christian-bound senior pitched a complete game shutout and struck out 14.
Fryklund also knocked in a run in the third inning to make it 2-0 Royals.
Velasquez hit a booming ground-rule double to right to bring in another run in that third inning.
