Orozco and Melton honored at SB Round Table Athletes of the Week

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - San Marcos girls soccer player Sofia Orozco was named Female Athlete of the Week at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table weekly luncheon while Carpinteria freshman Jackson Melton claimed the Male Athlete of the Week award after making a huge splash in the pool.

Orozco capped off a big week by scoring the golden goal in the second overtime as the Royals beat South Pasadena 1-0 in a CIF-SS Division 5 semifinal game.

The win puts the Royals into Friday's championship game against Paraclete at 5pm at San Marcos High School.

Orozco scored two goals in their quarterfinal win at Marshall earlier in the week.

As for Melton he set Carpinteria school records in winning the 200 individual medley (2:08.7) and 100 breaststroke (1.05:57) at the Citrus Coast League finals.

They are also automatic CIF qualifying times and helped the Warriors to the team victory.
