Saints lose in CIF title game

SANTA MARIA, Calif.- Despite a couple of late chances the equalizer never came for the Santa Maria Saints as they lost 1-0 to Central of Fresno in the CIF-CS Division 1 championship game.

Eliab Bettencourt's goal early in the second half gave the Grizzlies back-to-back championships in soccer.

Edgar Garces, Eddie Garces and Gilberto Gomez created some chances in the last 15 minutes of the game but Santa Maria could not finish them off.

Santa Maria was going for their first CIF soccer title since 2005.

The Saints season continues in the upcoming State Playoffs.
