Rally falls short as San Marcos water polo loses CIF semifinal game

Royals lose to Foothill 7-6

IRVINE, Calif.- San Marcos staged a furious rally but they fall one goal short as they lost 7-6 to Foothill in a CIF-SS Division 1 semifinal game.

The Royals were down 7-3 with under 30 seconds left in the third quarter when UCLA-commit Cassidy Miller scored to give the Royals some momentum heading to the final quarter.

USC-bound Hannah Meyer scored to make 7-5 and with under 3 minutes left in the game Miller scored again but the Royals could not get any closer.

San Marcos got off to a fast start as goals by Ava Stryker, Megan Musick(Cal-commit) and Miller gave the Royals a 3-1 lead early in the first quarter.

But Foothill roared back and grabbed a 4-3 lead after one quarter.

The Knights led 5-3 at the half and extended the lead to 7-3 into the third quarter as they went on a 6-0 scoring run.

The Royals will play in the third place game on Saturday against Newport Harbor.
