Bishop Celebrates a quarterfinal win

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-Kai Morphy made all six of his free throw attempts in the final 45 seconds as Bishop Diego upset Estancia 49-46 in a CIF Division 5-AA quarterfinal game.

The Cardinals will host Vistamar on Friday, February 21 at 7pm in a semifinal contest.

Morphy made 4 three-pointers and had a game-high 20 points but it's his free throws that saved the Cardinals season.

His first two with 45 seconds left gave the Cardinals a one point lead. But Estancia's Jake Covey made a lay-up with 30 seconds to go and the Eagles led 46-45.

But with time winding down Morphy drove and got fouled with just 3 seconds left. He calmly sank two more free throws giving Bishop Diego a 47-46 advantage.

After a time out Estancia threw the ball away and the Eagles fouled Morphy again who made two more free throws. The Cardinals intercepted a long pass as time expired and the student section rushed the floor to celebrate the Cardinals first trip to the semifinals since 2014.

Matthew Cunningham added 14 points in the win.

Estancia had won 19 straight games.
