Controversial ending in Dons double-overtime playoff loss in boys basketball
HESPERIA, Calif.- Santa Barbara had the ball in double-overtime tied at 58 with .8 seconds left on the road.
What happened next was controversial and heartbreaking.
The Dons were underneath their basket and Vance Baldwin threw a long inbound pass to 6'8 senior star Bryce Warrecker.
He leaped for the ball and so did the Hesperia defender. They both collided and fell to the floor.
The whistle blew and there was confusion.
After a lengthy delay and discussion a foul was called on Warrecker sending Hesperia to the free throw line.
The Scorpions made a free throw with less than a second left to win 59-58 in a CIF Division 2-A second round playoff game.
It was a gut-wrenching way to end the season especially for the senior Warrecker who scored 28 points in the controversial loss.
