Pacifica captures CIF-SS D6 football championship in a thriller
WHITTIER, Calif.- In a back-and-forth game the Pacifica Tritons won the school's first-ever CIF-SS football championship with a 42-41 victory over La Serna in the division 6 title game.
Brad Bichard's 2-yard touchdown run with just over eight minutes left in the game put the Tritons up 42-35.
La Serna scored a touchdown with 5:10 remaining but they missed the extra point and that was the difference.
Pacifica football is the first male sport to win a CIF-SS title at the school.
This was a wild game throughout as Malik Sherrod scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and it was tied at 14.
RJ Maria tossed a touchdown pass to Kyrie Wilson in the second quarter and this contest was tied at 21 at the half.
Trailing 35-28 late in the third quarter, Wilson blocked a punt and Sherrod picked up near the end zone and scored to tie it up again.
Pacifica wins the CIF-SS Division 6 crown with a 13-1 record and will find out tomorrow if they will continue their season in the CIF-State playoffs as expected.
