The heat dome comes to the Central Coast but there will be areas for relief
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The intense heat in the upcoming forecast this weekend, has many people looking for areas of relief.
That usually is found at community pools, or along the immediate coastline.
State officials have urged local emergency leaders to keep the public informed on the conditions and any special areas where they can find air conditioning or relief.
Often residents of the inland valleys, or cities such as Bakersfield, Fresno and Sylmar make their way to Carpinteria, Santa Barbara and Pismo Beach where they see temperatures up to 30 degrees lower than their homes.
Already that impact is being felt on the Central Coast shores.
Speaking on a conference call, the California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot said, "the way I have talked about this is we've always experienced heat waves in the west and certainly in California. This is supercharging those heat waves so clearly climate change is going to be driving more extreme weather and certainly more extreme heat events like this."
The Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management reminds you to prepare for extreme weather conditions throughout the year. Information and alerts can be found at : ReadySBC.org
Anyone going on a hike is advised to have a buddy along or tell someone where you are headed.
There will also be some big events including the Santa Barbara County Fair that could have people in hot lines for rides for hours.
