A wet December is encouraging in drought dry Santa Barbara County

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Some impressive rainfall numbers are coming in this month in Santa Barbara after a drought dry spell left water officials concerned again this year.

The weekend rains, at times were very strong.

Areas such as Gibraltar Road were impacted with large boulders crashing down from the hills. The hills there received 5.7 inches of rain from the latest storm.

San Marcos Pass held up well but soaked up  a lot of water in the Lake Cachuma watershed. 7.3 inches of rain was recorded by the Santa Barbara County Public Works department.

The lake level remains about the same today as it did last week.  As the hills get saturated the runoff will  then improve the capacity.

Creeks in Montecito have come alive, but remain at a safe level.

There were no mudslides.

A tree came down on Ortega Hill Road  over the weekend between Summerland and Montecito.

The Carpinteria State Park  had a pool of water and a small river through the grass area near Linden Avenue attracting ducks but it is not expected to hold up very long.

Snow showed up on the peaks of the Carpinteria area and Ojai hills.

It is a rare sight.
