One woman is dead following traffic incident on Highway 126 East of Santa Paula Monday
SANTA PAULA, Calif. – A 23-year-old Santa Paula woman is dead and two others injured following a three-vehicle, multi-collision traffic incident on Highway 126 east of Santa Paula Monday.
Around 2:35 p.m. on Jan. 22, Ventura Communications Center received a call of a traffic collision blocking multiple lanes on Highway 126 detail California Highway Patrol-Ventura Area (CHP).
According to CHP, a preliminary investigation indicates that a 23-year-old Santa Paula woman driving a 2008 Mercury SUV eastbound on Highway 126 when, for still unconfirmed reasons, she lost control of her vehicle and entered oncoming westbound traffic just east of Boosey Road.
The Mercury sideswiped a 2002 Honda Civic in the westbound lanes of Highway 126 before colliding with a westbound 2022 Honda Civic with two people inside, a 42-year-old Fillmore woman and a 30-year-old Santa Paula woman detail CHP.
Upon the arrival of first responders, the 23-year-old driver of the 2008 Mercury was declared dead at the scene by Ventura County Fire Department personnel and her identification is now pending notification of her next of kin state CHP.
According to CHP, the 19-year-old driver of the sideswiped 2002 Honda Civic did not report any injuries at the scene, but the driver of the 2022 Honda Civic reported major injuries including internal abdominal bleeding and their passenger reportedly had minor cuts to their elbow and hip.
Both occupants of the 2022 Honda Civic were transported to Ventura County Medical Center for their injuries detail CHP. Their status as of Tuesday has not been made publicly available.
