Convicted felon arrested for illegal gun possession in Ventura County
VENTURA, Calif. -- A Ventura man was arrested for illegal gun possession on Thursday.
After a months long investigation, detectives identified a Ventura man to be involved with illegal narcotics and firearm manufacturing activities.
On Wednesday at around 10:15 a.m., detectives provided a search warrant to the suspect's home on the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue.
During the search, detectives located and seized an unregistered short-barreled assault rifle, an unregistered handgun, two self-manufactured handgun frames, a silencer, high capacity magazines, dozens of rounds of ammunition and a useable amount of controlled substance.
The unregistered firearms are known as “Ghost Guns” because they are privately made firearms that lack serial numbers or markings.
Police say the suspect was a convicted felon and is prohibited from owning firearms and ammunition.
He was arrested for multiple firearm offenses including felon in possession of firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, unlawful firearm transfer, manufacture of an assault weapon, possession of an assault weapon, possession of short-barreled rifle, possession of a silencer, and possession of a controlled substance while armed with firearm.
He was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with pending court proceedings.
