Fatal crash on HWY 101 near Gaviota snarls traffic

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - At least one person was killed and several lanes of Highway 101 were blocked Monday morning following a multi-vehicle crash.

It happened on the northbound lanes of Highway 101 around 7:30 a.m.

The crash involved two vehicles, one an older model pickup truck. It happened in the Nojoqui Summit area of the 101 near Gaviota.

Santa Barbara County Fire said a "minor extrication" was required for a patient who was trapped in a vehicle.

According to the California Highway Patrol online incident log, at least one person was killed.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. At the time of the collision, heavy traffic and thick fog was reported in the area.
