Semi-truck crash causes traffic backup in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – A crash involving a semi-truck and sedan caused a major traffic backup Friday morning near Santa Maria.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded around 10 a.m. to the intersection of Telephone Road and E. Betteravia Road.

First responders found a semi-truck had collided with a Toyota Prius and both vehicles were stuck together.

Fire crews worked to separate the vehicles and one person was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated by firefighters.

Three people were injured. Two were transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

East Betteravia Road was blocked due to crash. At around 11:30 a.m., CHP said one lane was open in both directions.
