MGN Online

SANTA PAULA, Calif. - California Highway Patrol responded to a crash between a car and semi-truck that left one man dead Friday morning.

The crash happened around 10:22 a.m. on Highway 126 west of Peck Road in Santa Paula.

CHP said that a 53-year-old Oxnard man was driving a silver 2014 Chevrolet Silverado along the right-hand shoulder of the westbound lanes of Hwy 126.

At the same time, a 52-year-old Bakersfield man was driving a 1997 Freightliner semi-truck in the second lane of the westbound 126.

For reasons still under investigation, the truck and Chevrolet collided causing the Chevrolet to drive off the roadway and into a dirt embankment.

CHP said the Chevrolet continued moving away from the road until it overturned in an agricultural field.

Ventura County firefighters responded to the crash and tried to tend to the man's injuries, however he ultimately died at the scene.

CHP said the driver of the semi-truck pulled over and waited at the scene for officers. He did not have any injuries.

The number two lane of Highway 126 was closed for about three hours during the incident.

CHP is investigating the cause of the crash. If you have any information, please contact Ventura CHP at (805) 662-2640.
