2 dead, 4 injured after 3 cars crash on West Main Street in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria and Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a three-vehicle crash on West Main Street in Santa Maria Friday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:05 p.m. at the intersection of West Main Street and Black Road near Bonita School Road.

Santa Barbara County Fire reported that two people have died after the crash. Two individuals were flown to Cottage Hospital with serious injuries, two other people sustained minor injuries.

The cars involved were majorly damaged. One is nearly unrecognizable. Firefighters said they needed to extricate patients out of the cars.

CHP said that, after speaking with multiple witnesses, they could determine the 2004 Nissan was traveling eastbound on the right dirt shoulder of Hwy 166 west of Black Road at a high speed, passing other vehicles on the highway.

At some point, the driver of the Nissan lost control of his car and began to spin toward the westbound lanes of Hwy 166. The Nissan then had a head-on collision with another car which rolled over into the right dirt shoulder of the highway.

The Nissan then continued to travel east in the westbound lanes of Hwy 166 before striking the left side of a Chevrolet.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Two minors were injured and transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, one with moderate and another with major wounds.

Two other adults sustained minor injuries and were not transported to the hospital.
